5 Ways to Prepare for the Spookiest Emergencies this Halloween

31 Oct 2018 | Ready Marine Corps

1. Make an Escape Plan

Haunted houses are full of secret passages and doors going nowhere. Come up with a home evacuation plan and practice it regularly with your family so you know where to go when ghouls and goblins close in.

2. Address Fire Hazards

Lights flickering? Could be a paranormal activity or it could be a short in your wiring.  Address fire hazards in your home; make sure appliances are kept away from sources of moisture and avoid overloading sockets.

3. Build a Vehicle Emergency Kit

Stay one step ahead of hitchhiking ghouls by keeping an emergency kit in your car. Road flares, a spare tire, space blanket, extra water and a day’s worth of food can make a big difference between a minor inconvenience and a major scare.

4. Refresh Your Home Emergency Kit

Zombies in the neighborhood? Before you fortify your home against them, make sure you have the right supplies for a home emergency kit. Regularly replacing old batteries and consumables can keep you one step ahead of any dangers, undead or otherwise.

5. Keep Vaccines Up to Date

Seasonal illnesses can strike just as suddenly as a witch’s curse. Check with your doctor to make sure your family is up to date on their vaccinations and inoculations, such as the flu shot.
