The U.S. Marine Corps’ emergency preparedness program, Ready Marine Corps, recently received the International Association of Emergency Managers’ 2018 IAEM USA Public Awareness Award. The award recognizes outstanding public awareness and education programs related to disaster preparedness and emergency management. Marine Corps Emergency Management Head Mark Brown will accept the award at the 2018 IAEM Conference in October.
“We are honored to receive the award, and I am very proud of our team’s hard work,” said Brown. “Ready Marine Corps is a success because of our staff, our dedicated emergency managers, and the Marines whose individual preparedness strengthens the resilience of the Marine Corps.”
The award acknowledges Ready Marine Corps’ efforts during last year’s National Preparedness Month. The 2017 campaign tapped into the strength and ethos of the Marine Corps by reimagining vintage recruiting posters to encourage Marines to participate in the national preparedness initiative. Emergency managers across the Service used the used the resources developed at Headquarters Marine Corps to reach thousands of Marines, motivating them to improve their individual preparedness.
