Blount Island fire station opens, bolstering emergency response for Marines and port operations

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - U.S. Marine Corps Col. David Merles, commanding officer of Marine Corps Support Facility Blount Island, greets Percy Golden Sr., a critical incident officer with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, following the Fire Station 48 opening ceremony Aug. 19, 2026, on Blount Island in Jacksonville, Florida. Golden served as chaplain during the ceremony. The new station, located immediately outside the installation’s main gate, improves emergency response for the Marine facility, port operations and nearby communities.
