Roads remain hazardous, opening of services delayed until noon Sunday

22 Jan 2022 | Communication Strategy and Operations Marine Corps Air Station New River

Due to hazardous icy road conditions, MCAS New River and MCB Camp Lejeune will delay or cancel the reopening of programs, retails stores, and services (including religious services) with normal weekend hours of operation until noon Sunday, Jan. 23.

With high temperatures forecast just above freezing for a few hours this afternoon and with forecast lows near 20 degrees tonight, hazardous road conditions are expected to persist until temperatures rise into the mid-40s on Sunday.

As of 10 a.m., the following road closures remain in effect until further notice:

  • Wilson Blvd. is closed from Bougainville Rd. to the Piney Green/Louis Rd. intersection to all traffic. Traffic cones are in place at all access ramps.
  • Westbound onramp for Holcomb Blvd. at NC-24 is closed due to ice.
  • Outbound bridge on Holcomb Blvd. heading towards NC-24 West is closed due to ice. Outbound traffic on Holcomb Blvd. must exit onto NC-24 East and make a U-turn at Piney Green Rd.
  • NC-172 Bridge adjacent to the Sneads Ferry gate is closed due to ice.

Public Works has begun clearing operations of the primary roadways on base, and all personnel and residents should remain off of area roadways until road conditions improve.

With heavy accumulations of ice on trees and vegetation, there remains a threat of potential power outages as the day progresses.

If you experience a power outage, please report it to the appropriate person.

  • Personnel living in the barracks or BOQ should report any power outages or damage to their barracks manager.
  • Personnel living on base should report any power outages or damage to their PPV housing office maintenance line.
