Readiness & Resilience Support National Security Strategy

20 Dec 2017 | Ready Marine Corps

Earlier this week, President Donald J. Trump announced his National Security Strategy. Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis said in a statement Monday that the National Security Strategy “provides our Nation a clear and comprehensive strategy to address the security challenges that America faces.”

One of the pillars of the strategy is to protect the American people, the homeland, and the American way of life. To do this, a great emphasis has been placed on promoting resilience. “A democracy is only as resilient as its people,” the Strategy states, noting “response and recovery begins with individuals and local communities.”

It is the priority of the White House to build a culture of preparedness, “informing and empowering communities and individuals to obtain the skills and take the preparatory actions necessary to become more resilient against the threats and hazards that Americans face.” Ready Marine Corps supports this action by inviting Marines, families, and personnel to use the online resources at www.ready.marines.mil. Natural disasters, such as hurricanes, flooding, and wildfires, tested American resilience this year. It is through the strength of informed, prepared individuals that communities successfully face any hazard, threat, or disaster.
