Thanksgiving Safety During COVID-19 Pandemic

Thanksgiving is usually a time to gather with friends and family from near and far. While the holidays may be different this year due to COVID-19, there are still safe and healthy ways for you and your family to celebrate Thanksgiving. Based on the CDC’s Thanksgiving guidance, which ranks holiday activities by risk of COVID-19 transmission, here’s how you can safely enjoy good company, food, and festivities.

Host a small dinner with only those in your household

Consider preparing a Thanksgiving dinner for only your household. Fewer guests mean more leftovers!

Prepare Thanksgiving dinner to-go

Whip up your favorite Thanksgiving dishes and deliver them to local family and friends. Keep your delivery contactless by placing dishes on porches or steps and then stepping back to create a safe social distance.

Host a virtual Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family

Even if you can’t be together in person, you can check in on family and friends virtually! Use a video-sharing platform to share a meal or cooking tips.

Host a small outdoor Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends nearby

The CDC classifies outdoor gatherings as a moderate risk activity. If you host Thanksgiving dinner outside with family and friends geographically close to you, have guests sit with members of their own household at separate socially distanced tables. Be sure to wear a mask if you are less than six feet apart from others. Learn more from the CDC on how to safely host an outdoor meal.
